“You see things and you understand. You’re a wallflower Charlie”
The Perks of Being a Wallflower is one of those rare films, that comes along every few years or so, that makes you happy, sad, awed and hopeful.
Directed by Stephen Chbosky (the author of the original novel) set the early 90’s;
The Perks of Being a Wallflower follows the life of Charlie (Logan Lerman) as
he starts high school as a lonely, introverted freshman troubled by his past.
Charlie has no friends, and spends most of his time simply observing or
reading, until he meets beautiful Sam (Emma Watson) and goofy comic Patrick
(Ezra Miller); and they welcome him to "the island of misfit toys".
Charlie is shown a world of parties, drugs, alcohol, love, girls and
friendship; which he is guided through by the music of The Smiths, David Bowie,
Sonic Youth and New Order. Charlie, for
the first time in his life, discovers what it is to have friends, and what it
is to lose them.
“And in that moment I swear, we were infinite”
The Perks
of Being a Wallflower is a truly great, touching film with excellent
performances, an amazing soundtrack and a well written script. It is definitely
one to watch (and to read) and will absolutely go down as being one my
favourite films of all time.
It will have you laughing, crying, blushing and have you feeling infinite.
